Let Them Eat CAKE
Shareholders of the Cheesecake Factory (CAKE: US) are finally getting their just desserts for holding the line on the popular chain restaurant. The company closed up 16.32% today, ending the day at $24.37 despite trading as low as $15.10 in April. The surge started in after hours trading last night after the company announced plans to reopen most of its 211 U.S. stores by June.
The Simpsons Predicted This Too, But No, It Doesn’t Have a Ticker
An opinion piece by Gernot Wagner in Bloomberg suggests fighting climate change through geoengineering technology that would effectively block or reflect sunlight. “Solar geoengineering is potentially so powerful that one actor might be able to lower temperatures for the globe,” writes Wagner, a former founding co-director of Harvard’s Solar Geoengineering Research Program. “It’s only a matter of time before pressure will increase to do just that, regardless of how fast the world slashes CO₂ emissions. With more frequent extreme heat and weather, it’s not hard to foresee conditions miserable enough to make an attempt at a little relief seem worth the risk to some. Limited research is already making one thing clear: Solar geoengineering isn’t only technically feasible, it’s a bargain.”
If this sounds familiar, it’s because a variation on this idea appeared on The Simpsons.
